The lowdown:

There’s very little assembly required with this vacuum. Slot the four parts of the handle together and click into the head. Then simply turn it on by pressing the on/off button with your foot, and off you go.

AirRAM Platinum

A solid, light vacuum that’s nice to use, it’s also easy to push, thanks to Gtech’s Forward Inertia Drive. The stick handle lies flat so you can reach underneath furniture with minimum effort, and it completely swivels to make moving around corners and obstacles effortless. Plus, there are LED lights on the front of the head unit, which is always a bonus.

AirRAM Platinum

As with other Gtech models, it works by collecting debris when you push it forward and picks up finer dust and pet hair as you pull back.

I liked the speed handle, which replaces the long stick handle, so that you can use it as a handheld vacuum. It’s nicely designed and feels comfortable to use on stairs, furniture, and mattresses.

It’s also great if storage is an issue, as it’s relatively compact and the upper handle can be lowered.

I really liked this vacuum, and although it doesn’t come with a wide range of accessories or functions, it performs very well and, being cordless, means you don’t have the hassle of cables.

Features:

This model features anti-hair wrap technology, which basically means there’s a comb integrated into the unit, so it self-cleans.

The bin capacity is small, but it’s so nice to empty – just lift out the barrel and use the slider to push out the dirt – that this isn’t really an issue. And from a technical point of view, there’s just 2cm between the brush and the bin, so you shouldn’t get any problems with blockages, and it will run fully powered as you clean.

I found the LED display helpful, too – lighting up while it’s in use with each of the four bars turning off as the power is used up, as well as showing how much charging there’s left to be done when it’s plugged in. And if you don’t want to charge the entire vacuum, you can remove the battery and charge that. While it takes three hours to get the full one-hour runtime, you can get some use after a quick one-hour boost charge.

This model doesn’t come with many extras, other than a detachable duster, a speed clean handle, hair removal tool and scented cartridges. I initially thought the duster was a bit feeble, but after using it a few times, I changed my mind. If you don’t mind bending down to reach skirting boards etc, it’s so effective as all you need to do is run it along an edge to flick dust into the vacuums path. It’s a bit of a game changer.

Results:

This vacuum copes with a range of flooring – I have wooden floors, carpet, and sisal – and collects dust, mud, leaves, pet hair and post-Christmas pine needles. I found the air flow was a noticeable when I used it on wooden floors as it blew a few of the needles around, so it took a few back-and-forths to collect them all.

That said, the suction is strong enough to tackle debris and dust, and on several occasions, it sucked up part of a bean bag when I vacuumed too closely too it: when this happened, the motor cut out quickly, the brush didn’t snag the bean bag and it turned back on without any issues.

I really liked this vacuum, and although it doesn’t come with a wide range of accessories or functions, it performs very well and, being cordless, means you don’t have the hassle of cables. I marked this 18 out of 20.

Value for money:

With a RRP of £349.99, this is one of the more expensive models in the range we tested. However, it comes with a two-year standard warranty with the addition of a 10-year warranty for the battery and motor, so it represents good value for money.
