Check out our round-up of the best mini Christmas trees on the market - it's definitely one of the easiest and cheapest ways to bring instant Yuletide vibes to a bedroom. You can pop it on any available surface - a bedside table, chest of drawers, even on your windowsill.

If you prefer something a little softer or subtler, try a houseplant in a festive shade of red - poinsettia or amaryllis are classics.

Cosy up with seasonal bedding

Transform your bedroom in a flash with a seasonal duvet cover or throw. Reindeer, polar bears and even the 12 days of Christmas are among the themes you can find on sale this year.

Style your headboard

Another cheap and extremely cheerful way to inject instant Christmas atmosphere in your bedroom is to frame your headboard with fairy lights.

Colourful lights are the most festive, but consider white, too - not only do they give off a soothing soft light that works brilliantly in the bedroom, they'll look stylish all year round.

If you prefer something a little more subtle, look to nature and bring the outdoors in. 'Dress your headboard with some fresh foliage - the fragrance is sure to help to soothe you to sleep,' says fabric and wallpaper designer Vanessa Arbuthnott. 'The one thing you need to remember is to secure it properly, to ensure it doesn't fall off during the night.'

Festive feature walls

'Give yourself a temporary feature wall by using a cluster of oversized paper snowflakes - they can even be suspended from the ceiling,' suggests Vanessa.

Alternatively, while most of us hang our Christmas wreaths on the front door, there are plenty of stylish options suitable for displaying indoors. Check out our round-up of the best Christmas wreaths and you'll see what we mean!

Transform a table

A dressing table or a chest of drawers is the perfect location to create a festive tableau. If you've invested in a Christmas centrepiece for your dinner table, why not make the most of your purchase by displaying it here until the big day?

Alternatively, bring the sparkle by framing your dressing table or drawer with fairy lights or tinsel trim. We love to arrange a few winter candles on top, too. The soothing scents are the perfect preparation for a good night's rest - just remember to blow them out before you drift off!

For a simple finishing touch, Vanessa suggests tying red ribbons on to the handles of your wardrobe or drawers.
