Cottagecore bedside table makeover

We transformed a drab pine bedside table using Frenchic's Wise Old Sage, Creme de la Creme and Browning Wax - here's how!

The YourHomeStyle team found this pine bedside table at a second-hand shop. It's a nice, solid piece of furniture, but we're sure you agree that it was looking a bit drab. So we decided to give it a new lease of life, using chalk paint and browning wax to turn this tired pine unit into a cute cottagecore accessory.

Watch the video to see how it turned out - and we've included a step-by-step guide below for you to follow if you fancy giving it a go at home.

You will need

Step 1

Wipe down the bedside table thoroughly using a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. For more stubborn marks, use a gentle detergent.

Step 2

Sand down the woodwork. We used a fine-grit sanding block, but if the surface of your furniture is very damaged or marked, you can start with a coarse-grit sandpaper and work down to a finer grit. Remember to sand in the direction of the wood grain, never against.

Step 3

Apply your first coat of paint. We used Frenchic Wise Old Sage on the body of the table and Creme de la Creme for the tabletop and drawer knobs. Wait for the paint to dry completely, then apply a second coat.

Step 4

Once the paint is completely dry, you can add a layer of wood stain or wax to give a finish of your choice – we used Frenchic Browning Wax on the tabletop and drawer knobs.

Step 5

Once the wax/stain is completely dry, buff with a soft, clean cloth to bring out the shine.

Voila! We absolutely loved the end result – fresh, on-trend sage is the perfect shade for cottagecore vibes.
