How to create a faux foliage living wall as a quirky way to brighten up a bare spot in your home

An interior faux foliage wall or panel makes a great focal point in any room and will bring a bit of greenery and interest into your home. Also known as artificial green or plant walls, they can be as big or as small as you like, from a small picture frame size to the entire wall, and are easy to maintain - all you need is a little imagination!

So go on bring the beauty of outside indoors

For your faux living wall you will need

  • Large box frame
  • Chicken wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Upholstery stapler
  • Faux succulents and foliage
  • Hot glue gun

How to make an artificial plant wall or panel

Step 1

Remove the backing board and glass from the box frame and set aside. Place the empty frame face down on your work surface.

Step 2

Fit a length of chicken wire along the inside of the frame and carefully cut it down to size with wire cutters. Use an upholstery stapler to secure it to the frame, and then replace the frame’s backing board (you won’t need the glass).

Step 3

Cut down the succulent and foliage stems. Turn the frame over with right side up, and using a hot glue gun, stick the heads to the backing board through the chicken wire.

Step 4

Completely fill the frame, and then leave to dry before hanging up.
