Dulux have revealed their much-anticipated Colour of the Year for 2021. So what shade is going to be so hot next year? Well, it's 'Brave Ground', a pale, earthy brown with a soothing feel that we could all use after the past six months...
Brave Ground is the 18th Colour of the Year, taking the mantle from this year's Tranquil Dawn. As ever, the shade was selected by a specialist panel of colour designers, trend forecasters, design specialists, architects and editors from around the world.
'The colours on our walls are the backdrop to how we live our life,' explains Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director for Dulux UK.
'For many of us, lockdown has served to emphasise how important our home environment has become, it has been the place where we work, learn, relax. It can lift us up, nurture us, comfort us.'
'We continue to live through uncertain times. In 2021, the warm and grounding tones of Brave Ground will allow us to find certainty in the strength from the very ground beneath our feet, emboldening us to go forward and begin to live again and giving us the flex to adapt to the ever changing circumstances we face.'
At YourHomeStyle, we think the choice of Brave Ground makes perfect sense, with the popularity of natural aesthetics showing no signs of slowing, and the emerging popularity of desert-inspired colour schemes like Sante Fe Style. And of course, that warm, grounding tone will be welcome touch of cosiness as we look towards an uncertain future.
We've put together a guide to using earth tones in your home decor. From taupe to terracotta, we've got tips on nailing a neutral and natural colour palette.
In you're wondering how to incorporate the shade into your home, Dulux's experts have also come up with four suggested colour palettes showing different ways to use Brave Ground in your decor, whatever your style:
