Those new to home working have all had to make adjustments to our office set-ups over the past year and a half, from small updates such as investing in an ergonomic desk chair, to larger transformations like turning a shed into an office or creating a cloffice (essentially an office in a closet – it’s better than it sounds!).
If you don’t have a dedicated study, or space is at a premium, a hardworking, space-saving desk is a must. Foldable computer desks are an added bonus as once you’re done emailing and Zooming for the day, you can pack up your table as efficiently as packing up your work bag!
A folding desk is a great choice for students too, who might be working from temporary accommodation and are on the hunt for a comfortable and flexible desk space.
Foldaway desks come in a range of styles and sizes; from statement tables with shelves to minimalistic wall-mounted desks which save on floor space. We break down some of the best examples of such foldable desks in our guide below.

Foldable desk with shelf
We love this bright, practical foldable desk which has a handy built-in shelf, perfect for popping a cute houseplant, files, or a cuppa on! It folds up completely flat so you can easily store it away when not in use.
The shelf feature means you’d probably only want to disassemble this desk once a week at most or when guests are over, so if you’re looking for a desk to pack up at the end of each day it might not be for you. But, if you want a flexible desk space that is also homely and convenient this is perfect.
It measures 97 H x 85 W x 50 D cm and weighs 11kg.
Wall-mounted drop-leaf desk
Now this is one clever little desk. Not only does it save on floor space thanks to its wall-mounted design, but it has a cute pinboard built-in too!
The drop-leaf desk screws into the wall, meaning you don’t have to worry about carrying a desk back and forth whenever you need to work. It’s also especially handy if you don’t have any storage space to keep a folding desk in.
The natural walnut colour will fit into a range of interior styles, from Scandi to Mid-century modern. It’s easy to keep clean too thanks to its smooth finish. If you like things neat, tidy and hidden from sight, look no further.

Foldable desk with storage
After a large foldable desk? This foldaway computer table from Amazon might be just the thing. The tabletop is large enough to fit a computer screen or laptop as well as books, folders, or even a printer. Better yet, this space-saving desk comes with four roomy shelves!
When not in use, you can fold the tabletop down alongside the shelves – ideal if you work from your living room or bedroom and need to free up floor space in the evenings. The industrial style makes it perfect for modern homes, too.

Sustainable folding desk
If sustainability is your jam, you might want to consider this beautifully handmade foldaway desk from specialist brand Deskmate. They use natural plywood for an eco and minimal desk design that works in just about all interior schemes. Keep it fresh and clean for a Scandi look or jazz it up with colourful accessories to tap into the pastel aesthetic.
It’s super easy to set up and disassemble, simply flip up the tabletop and turn out the legs. The desk space is generous with enough room for a laptop, books, pen pots and accessories. When not in use, it makes a handy small sideboard space too.

Space-saving foldable desk
For something a little bit more affordable, we rate this space-saving foldable desk from Habitat, which folds up completely flat for easy storage. There’s no assembly required, simply fold it out once you’ve got it out the box, easy!
It comes in this stylish black and wood colourway as well as a white and a black option so you can hopefully find a style to suit the rest of your home. True, it’s not the most ergonomic of the foldable desks we’ve seen but for occasional working from home use it’s great.

Small wall-mounted drop-leaf desk
If you only occasionally work from home and you need a spot away from the hustle and bustle of domestic life for Zoom calls or to dash off some emails, a small wall-mounted drop-leaf desk might be the best solution for you. It screws into the wall and there are two folding options for the tabletop so you can have either a narrow or deep desk surface space.
When not in use, this space-saving drop-leaf desk can be folded flat against the wall – perfect if you have a super dinky space. As it’s wall-mounted it saves on floor space too. You can choose from white, black or brown and it can hold up to 20kg in weight. It measures 80 W x 60 D cm.
