How to make marble-effect coasters

Here's how to make your very own stylish marble and metallic coasters

DIY marble coasters

These marble and metallic coasters are super simple to make and will look stylish on a coffee table. Here’s how to make them:

You will need:

  • Ceramic coasters
  • Windsor & Newton Navy ink
  • Old plate 4 Shaving cream
  • Old knife or spatula
  • Stirring stick
  • Pebeo gilding wax in Empire Gold
  • Paintbrush

Step 1

Add a layer of shaving foam to an old plate (enamel ones work well as the ink will wash off of them easily). Drop a few dots of navy ink across the shaving cream. Marble together using a stirring stick to weave the ink through the cream to create a swirled effect.

Step 2

Place the ceramic coaster down into the marbled shaving foam and then remove the excess cream with a swipe using either an old blunt knife or rubber spatula. You can also run them under the tap to make sure all the foam is removed.

Step 3

Once they are dry add gold details with the gilding wax. Buff the wax on using a paintbrush and use the lines of the marble as a guide for the gold for a cohesive look.
