Create a tassel with a twist – this gorgeous half-moon variety has a chic-yet-boho feel (plus, they’re really simple to make).

You will need:

  • Black embroidery floss
  • Cardboard, 5cm wide
  • Black thread
  • Black felt, 1mm thick
  • Glue gun
  • Fine-toothed comb
  • Scissors
  • Lampshade
  • Black ribbon
  • Cream crochet ribbon

Step 1

Wrap the floss around a 5cm-wide piece of cardboard 25 times. Tie a short length of thread through the floss at one end to bind the tassel – its ends will become a tab for hanging. Remove from the cardboard and cut through the loops.

Cut a 4cm circle of felt, fold in half and snip a small slit halfway along the fold. Unfold and then insert the tab through the hole. Spread out the thread, apply hot glue to the felt and fold in half. Turn over and glue the other side.

Step 2

Carefully brush the threads then trim the tassel to neaten. Repeat steps one and two to make the required number of tassels.

Step 3

Glue the tabs of the tassels, evenly spaced, around the top and bottom edges of the lampshade and trim the tabs. Glue the black ribbon along the edges then finish by gluing the crochet ribbon over the black ribbon.
